Privacy Policy
The short version: your CV is created, stored and exported in your own browser and is never sent to us. We keep no logs or analytics of our own. The site is paid for by Google advertising, and Google uses cookies to serve those ads. The rest of this page gives the details.
This policy applies to https://free-cv-editor.com (the "site"), operated by CV Editor ("we", "us").
1. Your CV and anything you type into the editor
The editor runs entirely in your web browser. When you type into it, import a PDF, add a photo or export a PDF, that work is done on your device by code that has already been downloaded. The editor's code does not send the contents of your CV, your imported files or your photo to us or to anyone else, and we have no server that could receive them.
So that your work is still there when you come back, the editor saves your CV and your panel layout in your browser's local storage for this site. This data stays on your device. You can remove it at any time by pressing New in the editor (which clears the CV), or by clearing this site's data in your browser settings. Using a private or incognito window means it is deleted when you close the window.
If you use Save data, the editor creates a file on your device. What you do with that file is up to you.
2. Advertising (Google AdSense)
We use Google AdSense to show advertisements. Google's ad code runs in the pages of this site, including the editor page, in the same way it does on other ad-supported websites.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's My Ad Center. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google and its partners may collect information such as your IP address, browser and device characteristics, the page you are viewing and your interactions with ads. Google explains this in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services, and its own practices are governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you will be asked for your consent before personalised ads are shown, and you can change your choice later using the privacy settings link shown with the consent message. If you do not consent, Google may still show non-personalised or limited ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping, aggregated reporting and fraud prevention.
We do not give Google, or any advertiser, the contents of your CV.
3. Hosting
The site is hosted on Cloudflare. As with any website, delivering a page to you means Cloudflare processes technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the address of the page requested, for the purposes of delivering the site, keeping it available and protecting it from attacks. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
We keep no server logs of our own, and nothing about your visit is written to a database we control.
4. Analytics
We do not use analytics or tracking tools of our own, and the editor reports nothing about how you use it. If that changes, we will update this policy before we start.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
| What | Set by | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
Local storage: cv-editor.model.v1 | This site | Keeps your CV on your device between visits. Never sent to a server. |
Local storage: cv-editor.split.v1 | This site | Remembers the width of the editor panel. |
| Advertising cookies and identifiers | Google and its partners | Serving, personalising (where permitted) and measuring ads, and preventing fraud. See section 2. |
| Consent choices | Google (consent message) | Remembering your advertising consent choice, where a consent message is shown. |
We do not set cookies of our own.
6. Children
The site is intended for people preparing job applications and is not directed at children under 13.
7. Your choices and rights
Because your CV stays on your device, you are in control of it: you can view, change, export or delete it at any time without asking us. For advertising, use the controls described in section 2.
Depending on where you live, privacy laws such as the Australian Privacy Act 1988 or the EU and UK GDPR may give you rights to access, correct or delete personal information held about you, or to complain to a regulator (in Australia, the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner). We hold no accounts and no server-side record of visitors, so there is nothing of yours held on our systems for us to act on. If you believe we hold information about you regardless, you can complain directly to your local regulator.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change how the site handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
